Wildlife India Travel Guide, India Tourist from all over the world visit India in order to explore the dynamic wildlife of India. Rich in stripped Royal Bengal Tiger, one horned Rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Swamp Deer and many other exciting animals, Indian wildlife is a must watch. Most of the sanctuaries have lakes which makes them picturesque and supports rich aquatic life including fresh water crocodiles and a number of species of fishes and snakes. Water birds like corrnorants, darter, ibis, white breasted water hen, moorhen, jacanas, stilt, river tern, ringed plover, sand piper and herons (grey, and purple) are quite common. The wildlife population in India includes elephants, Indian bisons, swamp deer, sambhars, hog deer, sloth bears, tigers, leopard cats, jungle cats, hog badgers, capped langurs, hoolock gibbons, pigs, jackals, porcupines, pythons, buffaloes and of course the one horned rhinoceros. Pelican, duck, geese, hornbill, ibis, cormorant, egret, heron, black necked stork, lesser adjutants, ring tailed fishing eagles are also in plenty. During winters a large number of migratory birds are regular visitors.

Wildlife in Rajasthan

Sariska Tiger Reserve
Wildlife Travel Guide, Sariska Tiger Reserve lies in the Alwar district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a prime a tiger country. The forest is typical dry deciduous, dramatically changing with the change in season.

The Sariska park is home to numerous carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger. These feed on an abundance of prey species such as Sambar, Chitel, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary

Periyar National Park

Here the high ranges of the Western Ghats are clothed in dense evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savannah grasslands. Below this thick green canopy roam herds of elephants, sambars, tigers, gaurs, lion tailed macaques and Nilgiri langurs.

Wildlife of Andhra Pradesh

Kawak wildlife
Wildlife Travel GuideKawak Wildlife Sanctuary in Adilabad district lies 50 km from Mancheral railway station. The prominent animals here are the sloth bear, deer, antelope and leopard. The delta region of the Godavari has the Coringa Sanctuary which is renowned for reptiles like the salt water crocodile. Just a few kilometres away from Hyderabad are three deer parks - the Jawahar Lake Deer Park, famous for the chital, and the Mahavir Vansthali Park, and Mrugavani Chilkur Park famous for the sambar, chinkara, chowsingha, blackbuck and chital.

Nehru Zoological Park
Situated on the Hyderabad-Bangalore highway, this zoological park is one of the largest in India and is just 16km from Hyderabad. The zoo houses nearly 1500 species of animals, birds and reptiles. There is a safari park where visitors can go on a conducted tour in protected vans to see the animals in their natural habitat. A Natural History Museum, an aquarium and a Children's Park are added attractions.

Srisailam Sanctuary
Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Sanctuary is the largest of India's Tiger Reserves, lies in the state of Andhra Pradesh. With rugged and winding gorges slice through the Mallamalai hills, the reserve is the large reservoir of the Nagarjunasagar Dam on the River Krishna. The dry deciduous forests with scrub and bamboo thickets provide shelter to a range of animals from the tiger and leopard at the top of the food chain, to deer, sloth bear, hyena, jungle cat, palm civet, bonnet macaque and pangolin. In this unspoilt jungle, the tiger is truly nocturnal and is rarely seen.

Wildlife at Karnataka

Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary
Originating from two Kannada words-'nagar' meaning snake and 'hole' meaning streams, the sanctaury is true to its name a number of streams snake through its rich tropical forests. Nagarahole is situated in the picturesque districts of Kodagu and Mysore in southern Karnataka. The Nagarahole National Park was first set up in 1955. In 1975 its area was increased to include a greater expanse of forest reserve.

One of the most fascinating sanctuaries of Karnataka, Bandipur has an exquisite variety of wildlife including tigers, peafowl, elephants, sambas, barking deer, quail and the hornbill. Another major attraction of the Park is the Safari on an elephant back which can make your trip an unforgettable experience. The best time to visit Bandipur (140 km from Mysore) is between June and October.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
Ranganathittu is a home for all wildlife birds. Just a walk around the sanctuary your eyes will be filled with surprises looking at the variety of birds from all over the world. Ranganathittu is indeed a beautiful bird sanctuary which should not be missed by bird lovers.

As a paradise for migratory birds it houses birds from Siberia, Australia, North America and other places migrate for their annual Indian holiday. It may be the Open-Bill Stork, The White Ibis, Egret, Heron, Partridge or even the Cormorant trying to say hello! Ranganthittu treats you to some glorious sights and surprises. A basket of visual delights - Crocodiles basking under the sun, otters running free, flocks of birds gathered on tiny islands.

The Bannerghatta National Park
Teeming with exotic species of wildlife, the Park was established in 1971. The park boasts of an astonishing variety of trees like sandal, jalari, chujjullu, neem, tamarind, zizyphus amongst others and lies 22 kms. from Bangalore. The 104 sq km-park includes ten reserve forests of Anekal Range of the Bangalore Forest Division. It is surrounded by scenic hills, with many ancient temples perched on them.
